33.000 feet

The materials used are 10km string and approximately 70 liters of matt black paint to blacken the disintegrating walls.

33.000 feet is an installation installation created during the IBUG festival 2012 set within an old slaughterhouse. The materials used are 10km string and approximately 70 liters of matt black paint to blacken the disintegrating walls. The only light source of this 90 sqm room is a vast skylight of 2x10m at a height of 7m.
The installation makes reference to this remarkable light source. By blackening the room the eye is depraved of the rooms’ structure and shadows and all impact is directed towards the surreal light pillar. This installation symbolizes the short moment between light and darkness, heaven and hell or safety and forsakenness. The old slaughterhouse which itself is dying contributes an impalpable feeling: finitude.
